Hello all, I am new to the forum as I am looking to buy either a PC893 or Dewalt 618PK. The PC is about $30 more but I have heard great things about it. I have mostly Dewalt tools and I like the integrity of the tools. I am stuck on which one to get.

Also I would like to start expermenting with making crown moldings. So any info you all have would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Hi Dohcser

They are both great routers :), If most of your tools are Dewalt I would stick with it.
One note *** speed control is a big deal on routers keep that in mind.

"crown moldings" can be made easy with the right bit and a easy jig to hold it true to the router table fence.
They make many, many crown moldings bits, below you will see a set of 2 and 5 and a set of 10 that are a good deals.

Thanks for the input. Do you know of a website that has a good plan for building a router table. I went to the local lowes and saw the tables they have and they look like a toy. I figured I could build a full size table for about the same price in materials and it would be better.
Hi Dohcser

Well Oak-Park has one you can buy or make with all the parts you need for them.
It's a great router system but you can find many others as well like the one from NYWS (Norm's Plan) MLCS also sells one or two and WoodPecker is also a good one and Rockler too.

Tell me what price range you want to stay in. ? also how much room do you have for it ?, and I will post some url links.

I was expecting to spend around $100 in wood and the router plate. I am not sure if this is too low, however I figure with me building it, it should save alot of time. Also I will be doing alot of crown moldings so I need something as sturdy as possible. Thank you all for the great info.

Also I was leaning more towards the Dewalt 618PK setup over the Porter Cable 893 what do you all think of this?
Hi Dohcser

Well the one I recommend is the one below ▼ because you want to do alot of crown moldings plus it will do many other router jobs as well.
Plus see the link below for the bits at a great price.

Plus check out his eBay store for other great deals on bits.

Just NOTE*** I just ordered 175.oo dollars (on 1-08-07) of his bits because of the great prices and the shipping charge was only 20.oo total for all of them. (28 bits)

Just a note **** 100.oo dollars is a bit low, you can make a Horz.router table for about 125.oo bucks but for a standard router table it going to run about 200.oo + bucks you can cut many corners and make it for less but don't you get what you pay for when it comes to parts for the router table. :)

Rusty made a Horz.router table ,you may want to PM him and ask him what it cost him in total. Rusty's name on the forum is 18243015, see members list.

I have the Horz.router table from MLCS and it's a GREAT table and can do many, many jobs, many jobs don't need to be run flat on the table ,that's to say on a standard router table. :)

Here's a link to the one I have. ▼

I don't mind spending $125 i was throwing numbers out there as that is what I thought it would cost. I definately want a good one and I don't mind spending the money. Also on the horizontal table, I was looking for the dimensions and could not find it, does it also come with everything in the picture minus the router?

Thanks for all your input.

Bosch?

Now I am being swayed towards the BOSCH 1617esvpk router. What do you all feel about this router?

3 moderators on this site own 1617's. But your question is one only you can answer. Each router has a different feel to it. The controls work differently from brand to brand and only you will know which feels best to you. No matter which brand you choose there are members here who own one and will be happy to help with questions. Welcome to the forums.
I ended up getting the Bosch 1617ESVPK which came with a router guide for $195 with tax. Pretty crazy price I think. Now I am on to choosing or building a table.
Hi Dohcser

That's great :), how about sharing the place where you got it so anyone looking for one at a great price can get one also :)
You may want to add your tax rate also.
