Thanks for the tips! Always nice to see solutions that can be found with a little out-of-the-box thinking. I've used drill bits to set up exact depth cuts many times in the past. Never had feeler gauges until I bought a 3d printer that needed setting up. Usually when depth is critical I'm using a trim router to cut pockets for hinges or other hardware. The hardware itself becomes the spacer used to set up the router.
