:laugh:Anybody out ever made cabinets out of Oak Hardwood flooring. Home depot in Canada wants $250.00 a Linear Ft i have 30 linear ft. $7,500.00 no way hoise. I bought $500.00 160 Sq Ft of Oak Harwood Flooring. Paid another grand for the equipment and hope and pray still have 8 fingers and 2 thumbs at the end of project. I have made 7 doors so far. Getting much better each door. Started out with the bathrooms (3) 9 doors to start. The Router scarces the crap out of me so far. Getting less scary each time out though. I shall tame that rascily rabbit one day. I have been using my belt sander to take the top coat off the Hardwood the thickness planner has to work way to hard to remove the top coat. They say it has Aluminum Oxide in the paint ; i have a good mask before without qa mask (don't smoke) felt like i did smoke a pack after sanding though. All solids i say no venear for my cabinets.
Any thoughts ....???Am i nuts or just frugal.

Maybe $2.50 a linear ft. ...$45 for 30 lin. ft., not $7,500
$2.50/ft for full 3/4" x 3" Oak doesn't sound unreasonable considering that it's been machined and sanded.

I think he is talking about the finished cabinet, box and all...running feet. I guess that is upper and lower combined.

I would not use hardwood for the boxes. Oak veneer plywood would look nice. Face frames and doors would be OK also.

Show us some pics so we can get an idea of what you are doing.

The router shouldn't be too scary if you use feather board when you can to help stabilize the workpiece.

Good luck.
See pics attached (made from poplar).
Hope this helps.

Paul, welcome to Router Forums, glad to have you join us, I'm positive the members of the community would be more than willing to answer any questions you have :)
Think you are going about cabinet making the hard way, here in the states red oak plywood is about 50.00 a piece, oak boards about 4.00 a board ft. I would guess that a 24x30 cabinet could be build for between 200 and 300 depending on the hardware

Yes 200 to 300 a cabinet times 32 from someone else times 200 $6,400 250 x32 =$8,000 but using oak hardwood it is not venear and does take longer and yeah normally do stuff sometimes the hard way (ask my Dad give your head a shake son)
but will only cost me a couple grand with all equipment and maybe make me the boss of my router and can make some real fancy things with it.

Not sure exactly what you have in mind, but assuming even if it's 3/4" thick solid flooring... 160 Sq Ft isn't close to enough to build 30 lineal feet of upper and lower cabinets.

Just did about that amount last summer. I used in the vicinity of 300 Bd Ft of solid Oak and probably 15(would have to pull invoices, but that is off the top of my head) sheets of oak ply, plus 100+ bd ft of poplar for drawers. I also had several hundred dollars in hardware(and we didn't go expensive at all on hdwr!) Then there are countertops to be considered. I think you are rather underestimating the scope of what you are doing.

I think you should do a bit of research on cabinet construction before you go much further.

If I had not used the plywood(it is essentially veneer!), would have been 800-1000 board feet of lumber.. at the price of your flooring that's $3000 give or take without hardware/countertops!

Nuts? Nah, Little uniformed probably. My wife and I saved probably $12,000(over custom, not IKEA) but we still spent several thousand. It can be worth it, but you can't do it with 160 SQ FT of flooring! Not even just face frames and doors!
