that's quite a different style of handle Oscar - never seen anything like it before.
I read a short article about preserving the color of purple heart just the other day: put it in the oven about 250*f for a few minutes. It might be worth looking into.

wow - that is quite a difference. According to the post I read, heating it makes the color last longer also. Only time will tell.

An interesting failure.
Using the heating technique for purple heart, I wanted to see if the purple heart would get more purpliey if I baked it hotter and longer. 350F for 20 minutes. Big fail.

Oscar - I would not consider that a fail at all. Now you know what doesn't work. (the glue doesn't like heat). I would try baking the wood before you glue it together. Maybe even put another handle on this one. Keep us in the loop as to your successes.
