PC 690 - Diameter of Guide Rods?

4473 Views 17 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Stick486
Could someone tell me the diameter of the Guide Rods used for the edge guide on a PC 690? I want to order some longer rods, than what comes with the edge guide, to build a circle cutting jig. And no, I don't have an edge guide to use as a reference. I've measured the mounting hole and I thought it was going to be 3/8" but it appears to be significantly larger than that.

Thanks in advance,
Dave.

5/16''
But, but, but...David said it appeared to be LARGER than 3/8". (3/8"+)
For our metric friends, 3/8" is the the same as 6/16". Stick measured his at 5/16"...somebody's mistaken.

In a recent thread, I had occasion to measure my old Craftsman guide rods at 1/4" ...ie 4/16". I didn't actually measure my Bosch guide rods but they're massive by comparison.

plan ''A''...
insert rod into hole gauge...
read number next to hole...
type in the answer....

plan ''B''...
Have David insert a drill bit that fits the hole...
read size on drill bit to learn the size of the hole...

anything else I can do for ya Dan...

just so ya know...
the hole size is 13/32'' or 26/64 in metric...

suspect the guide is for more than just the 690...
in metric - that would be ''one size fits all''...

Bosch has two sized rods depending on year and model...
3/8'' (6/16 metric) and 7/16'' (21/48 metric)...
older than dirt Bosch had 1/2'' rods (50/100 metric)...
You beat me to it...I went out and measured my Bosch rods.... .373" (3/8" or 6/16")
They'd probably fit David's PC.

the Bosch I knew...
I added 5 and 10' rods for the Bosch guide...
Don't know what size but there is a Type 1 and a Type 2 PC 690 so that will probably make a difference. Do you have a caliper?
I just realized that I could use my drill bits to find the right size. It turns out that I was way over with 3/8". My eyeball must be getting out of calibration. I found that a 9/32" drill bit fits just right. Thanks for the help.

So, a 1/4" rod is perfect, a little slop (1/32") isn't a big deal; there's two rods to keep it in alignment.
I hope you guys have prescriptions for those Metric drugs ! LOL

Hey Dan, if this was a conversion to metric, shouldn't it be in millimetres? Metric doesn't do fractions.

No conversion; a translation for our Imperial fractions challenged friends.
