PHENOLIC TOP

Anybody know where I could purchase a piece of 3/4” or 1” phenolic sheet, about router table size? You know, 24”x36”? Most places sell entire sheets into the hundreds of dollars but you can usually buy a table top with fence, slots and plate insert for $400 +/-. I would like to make my own.

Mike - what part of the world are you in ?
are you open to considering other options ?
A much cheaper alternative would be to find a used office furniture store and get a workstation or cubicle top. They are oftentimes throwing odd ones out so you might be able to get one for free. They come in all sorts of sizes but they are thick ( about 1 1/8") and covered with laminate on all 6 sides. All that needs to be done is to put in a router plate and a miter slot.

This is a great option. If the piece is too large, then you could simply cut off the edges, then trim out the edges with hardwood, rounded over on the top, outside edge. Light finish on the hardwood to go with the laminate and you have a really beautiful table top you can mount on a base of some sort.
McMaster Carr has the phenolic.
