Colin depends on what you are willing to spend. Many on here recommend the Craftsman combos. Porter Cable, Hitachi, Freud, Dewalt, all have their fans. Head down to the hardware stores and handle a few of the different routers to see how they "feel". Comfort of use is an important factor.

 

I don't think Craftsman makes any 3HP routers anymore. I did find this one on ebay for $91 (incl shipping). Plunge action feels very smooth but I haven't used it yet. I plan to mount it under my Unisaw table extension sometime this fall.

 

Hey Robert, you got an excellent buy there. That router has been discontinued by Sears for some time now. I used to have one, and it was my go to big router when I needed it. Its a workhorse for sure.
At the first sign of the brushes going bad, replace em!! dont' hesitate. Mine went, and when they did, they took out the windings...
