Hi Bruce

It's made so you can attach the part to the fence or to the top of your router table.

But you will see Bob & Rick just side it into place and it should say in place so to speak.
Because they switch fences all the time.

It's made to redirect the chips down the port and not let them take off to the right side of the table top.

Hi Bruce

If it's Oak-Park fence it should mill fine and should not melt, I would cut them 1/2" to 5/8" deep :)
But you can always use the band saw/Radio Arm saw/Table saw or a hand scroll saw to cut the slots.
Most of the chips that get sucked out will be small but you will from time to time get long ones that you will need to power down and pull out.
