Raised letter signs

6640 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  bobj3
I am making raised letter signs. I am using a trim router from homier and a straight bit. My problem is the bottom of the sign has trails and is uneven. Am I using the wrong bit if so what should i use? I am new to woodworking and any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You may want to drop a email or PM to Alan (mailee) for a tip or two looks like he has it down right.

For this application an upcut spiral bit would give a better finish. This type of bit has cutting edges on the end of the cutter where a straight cutter does not. Another consideration is providing enough support for your router base so it will ride evenly.

Just a add on Note***

Don't forget the Table Top Jig Saw/Scroll Saw, you can cut the letters or numbers out and then glue them in place. (with a good outside glue,T-Bond)

Or cut all the numbers and names as one item ,this will give it the look of free cut with a router . (Raised Letter Sign)
