first time on forum. i have made a router table, now am planning a sofa table 5' long x 3/4". i want to round off the edges with a slight drop from the top to the start of the roundover, about a 1/16". the question is would i be better off to rout freehand from the top of the board or use the router in the table.

Your sofa table is 5' long and ??? wide and 3/4" thick I assume. The piece is bigger than the router so I would recommend using the portable router and rout the edges with a pilot bearing round over bit. Your slight drop is called the profile line. Good Luck with your routing project.
