Rockler sign making kit?

Hello everyone. I'm fairly new at this, but I want to make some signs and have been looking at the milescraft Signpro kit and the Rockler guide set. Rockler letters lock together without rails and seem a lot simpler to use. The pictures show them snapped together and then taped to the wood. Has anyone had experience with this product that might want to make a suggestion. If the Rockler kit will do the job, it seem the way to go, but the rails, etc. may be a necessary thing. I also wondered if maybe the Rockler letters might be thicker than the Milescraft. Comments greatly appreciated.

Hi

I think the Rockler template are a bit thinner and a bit of a pain to use..

Interlock Signmaker's Templates - Rockler Woodworking Tools

By I do suggest the 1212 model it comes some neat clamps.

Thanks. That's what I needed to know.
Greetings and welcome to the router forum. Thank you for joining us, and remember to have fun, build well and above all be safe.
Your Welcome Randy

If you get the Milescraft kit you may want to add some support to the holding frame it's a bit light and will tick you off if the letters drop out at the wrong time they are easy to make and use, it's just some 1/4" MDF stock..then you will be a happy camper..

Here's some snapshots of the brackets..

Hi Randy,

Welcome to the forum,

thanks for the tips, bj
thanks for the info

UPS is bringing my Miloescraft kit tomorrow. I think I will copy the MDF support / spacers / clamps before I try my first sign. I bought the Pantograph last week and I have had a ball playing with it. I have a China built, - no name router table, Ryobi light-weight router table, el-junk-o Harbor Freight plunge router, Harbor Freight mini router and a new Dewalt three base router kit. Obviously I am hooked.
HI , I just joined this forum.
I use the milescraft kit to make trail signs for the forest service. It does have several drawbacks but is very inexpensive. I have made a jig that holds 8' 2x4's and 2x6's with hinged guides for the kit's rails. I also made some wood jigs to replace the flimsy plastic they included to keep therails from seperating. I have drilled the ends of the rails so that the set screws go into the holes for a non slip fit instead of relying on thghtening the screw onto the rails. and soldered extensions on the end piece screws to allow easier finger tightening of the screws. The one thing I haven't come up with yet is an easy fast way to clamp the kit onto the wood to be routed but tightening the clamps is not too time consuming. I make 50 to 60 signs at a time. I do a complete 8 foot piece with several signs then seal and paint the letters. I use my surface planer to remove the top color instead of sanding. Then the signs are cut to size, all corners rounded with a hand held router. The final step is two coats of wood preservative. I will make a seperate post when I can post pics....

One thing I forgot, I also made several templates not included int the kit. for template material I used FRP( fiberglass reeinforced plastic) from homedepot. Same thickness as the milescraft material and probably much stronger.

Hi, I am looking after a 5" height sign, unfortunately in the milescraft I can have it. But the interlock sign at Rockler is 5", but without rail support. Which is the best thing to do.
Is there a tutorial for making those jigs letters with a fret saw, which dimension should the width be?
