ROS Sander dust collection idea

I have been using a bi-pap machine at night to help me sleep. The hose on this contraption is about 1" in diameter and 6' long. It is extremely flexible. I had the idea of hooking it up to my sander since the regular 1 1/2" hose on my shop vac is too cumbersome to us. To my surprise it fit perfectly into the sander. I had to modify it to stay put while moving very far by placing a hose clamp on it about 2" from where it attaches and putting an s hook in it. Then I put a small bungee cord (like th king you find in camping equipment), around the sander body and hooked it to the s hook. Awesome setup and the hose is not cumbersome as you sand and does not get in the way.
If you know anyone using a cpap or bi-pap machine, ask them to save the hose for you. Works great.

Great idea, Steve...

As info, if you have a Bosch ROS the Bosch hose fits it exactly...VAC005 or the adapter RS006...just in case...

I have thought of trying that as we have several old hoses around. DW uses a CPAP & I use a BiPAP.

Tried that using the hose from my C_PAP unit a week ago. Stuffed the small hose into the shop-vac hose, closed off the opening slop using some painters tape, and turned on the vac. Worked great for about 5 minutes, then tripped the overheat breaker in the vac unit--not enough air flow. Need to make a "throttle plate" hose adapter so I can control bleed air flow to keep the shop vac cool enough.

That's why we love these forums - sometimes the simple and obvious escapes us and we need others to tickle our memories or imagination.

This is a great use for hoses that get replaced long before they actually expire. I keep smaller hoses around for the reasons stated, but never thought of going even smaller, even though it makes perfect sense. The C-Pap machine hoses are bigger than any of my palm sander ports, so should offer a fair flow.

Thanks.

I use a Bosch ROS with a Bosch hose adapter and not the bag connected to a Fein Turbo I VAC. It works great. I had to touch up some dry wall in the house which usually is a messy job with dust every where but with the Fein Turbo there was almost no dust. I wish I had know about this before.

When I have to sand drywall, I use my Dust Deputy to extend the time between cleaning the filter from a few minutes to twenty minutes.

Now that I've made my Super Dust Deputy and "2 horse" HF collector portable, they will be part of my project dust solution (20' hose).

I've used this combo to clean the yard of pine cones and leaves and it works great. It worked so good, I used it on the gravel parking lot of the wife's store, to pick up all the paint scrapings left behind by the painters. Though it grabbed a lot of gravel, it all spun out in the cyclone, so nothing hit the impellers.

Said another way, any dust collection you can adapt is a good thing.
