Hi, I am Bruce and new to this sight. I also had the problem of burning end grain of oak for cabinet rails end grain. I have a dewalt router and it is only 9 amps used in a router table. I think that listening to everyone that I need a bigger router and better grade of bits.

Greetings Bruce and welcome to the router forums, we are glad to have you join us.

9 amps is a little on the shy side, mine are 11 and 12 amp routers but you can still get by with what you have remembering that burning is usually an indication of dull or dirty bits, too slow a feed rate, taking too big a bite or a combination of the above. Try taking a smaller bite with an increased feed rate after cleaning your bits (you can get a cleaning solution from Rockler or other on line supplier or maybe someone on the forum has a solution that works). BTW you can tell if a bit, or blade for that matter, is dirty by any build up on the cutter that won't just brush off. I am sure you will get feed back from others

I have somewhat the same problem trying to make(too deep) a cut in baltic birch ply 3/4"
Brand new spiral bits 3/8" burned themselves blue (and probably ruined) tryin to cut out a cove in the ply. Finally had to use a jigsaw to cut it down to size and then try to clean it up. Still smoked the bits but not as badly.
BTW did you know that sawdust burnes when it gets REALLY hot?

Hi Bruce, and welcome to the forum. Let me second what Jerry said, as well asDavid; I get burning for two reasons: Old dirty bits, and trying to cut too deep too quick. I've also learned to use only carbide, and get the better ones, as well. The difference is like going from a butter knife trying to cut a tough steak, to a hot knife cutting through butter. It's amazing. (I learned the hard way, as most hard-headed people have to... lol)

I look forward to seeing some of your creations on here :)
