router purchase

I posted in the General a few weeks ago about buying a router...I had a m12v that I used in an Eagle America table...I sold the router...mistake...in the market for another...and have a tool show comming up next Saturday, wanting to purchase a M12V or the new combo kit from Hatachi...after a few responses in the General fourm, sounds like the combo is a route to take...any comments here are appreciated...getting down to the wire and just think that the combo will provide a table mount and a plunge base...with the M12V, my problem was taking it in & out of the table to use...someone recommended using the fixed base in the table and the plunge base for freehand, makes sense once I read it....any help?...tks in advance...Dennis

Hi,

The only thing I would suggest is to make sure you know what you can get the router for on the net before you go to the show. Even print it out if you can... including postage, tax, and any other fees (your total cost) then see how much they are willing to sell it to you for at the show. Also check the prices on-line for stores like Lowes or other stores you might have local to you. No reason to pay more then you have to.

amazon has a special for the m12v for $149.99
Top router reviews picks the Bosch 1617 2 1/4 hp. I have this router, only problem some have is the switch gets dust around the contacts and stops working..a bit of compressed air is an easy fix..
Great router..very light, and plunge base fits like a glove.
The second router mention in the review was the Skil.

I have found a M12V for 129.99, this is new not used, it was 174.99 at local tool store, not sure what the tool sale price would be, but bet it isn't going to be 129.99...just have some concern about using as a table and free hand router, pulling in & out, but someone said they leave the plate installed and use it free hand with the plate mounted, I checked mine out and plate is pretty good size...any comments appreicated.....like the idea of the combo with the fixed base & plunge, but the price for this M12V is attractive also....Dennis
