Hi Keith.
You will find many different opinions on this. A lift is not necessary, just an added convenience. Some don't mind pulling the router up to adjust it every time. Larger routers can get heavy. I prefer some kind of lift. Some routers have a built-in lift. My router plates are fastened to the table. For me it is easier to crank the adjustment handle for minor height adjustments instead of pulling a heavy router out of the table. You can also just reach under for adjustment if you have the room. Once you have a table you will probably find a method that your comfortable with.

 

I inherited a CMT Industrio table top from my dad. It is missing all the bolts and the router plated. I am wondering if I should just use that phenolic top. I can probably get a plate template and just route the table for a different plate? I am assuming I could drill and tap new holes in the fence and top if needed?

Keith, I use a Router Workshop table and it works very well for me. Others prefer different table set ups for various reasons. They all work, just a matter of what you are most comfortable with. If your router makes height adjustments by turning the motor in the base then a lift makes adjustments easier. My Bosch routers make in line height adjustments so the controls are always in the same position and a lift is really not needed.

 

I saw their website and video where they were making a box and picture frame. The table seemed very simple and easy to use. I liked the way the router and plate popped out for adjustment and bit change. Do they have the plan available on their website? I was thinking of subscribing to their website to get the shows......

I have two of these Industrio tables. They work great. My plates do not come out. One router uses a Router Raizer for above table adjustment. The other has a lift built into the router. Can you call manufacture & see if you can get missing parts.

I am going to try and call them today and see if I can get the missing parts. The instruction manual says the unit is from 2003. The phenolic insert is alot smaller than what comes on their tables now. Also, I am missing all the screws and knobs for it. Hopefully the parts are available and not too expensive......

Keith, the Router Workshop table plan is easy to follow and work with. It includes a plan for a base cabinet. Priced at $4 it is tough to beat. If you do subscribe to the program you also get all the Eplans at no charge. I highly recommend the Oak Park box joint jigs. In my opinion they are the easiest to work with. Oak Park is no longer producing any woodworking products and once the inventory is gone thats it.

 

Well for the update.........I AM AN IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!! The table looks like it uses an insert if you look at it from the bottom!!!!!!!!!!!! I have look at this table for a couple of weeks now and researched on where to get a router plate for it. I even called CMT yesterday and they said the inserts are discontinued.... I was in my office (restroom) last night and it hit me..... I was looking at it all wrong!!!! Now the great news...... I believe I have screws to put it together. Then I will be purchasing a Router Raizer for my Hitachi V12 router and install that to the table.....

I feel like such an idiot.........and thank you all for your help..........

Do take the time and call Marc Sommerfeld at Sommerfeld tools ,,it's a real long shot it can't hurt to ask, I have 3 of the drop in plates (blanks) ,they also put them in the delux pocket hole kit he once sold for CMT..

One more long shot, I got one of the CMT pocket kits from him and it came with the drop in plate for 1/3 of the list price ( 35.oo for the kit ) he hand many of the CMT items listed,close out items, can't hurt to ask him..
