I have been wanting to build a router table or make an insert for my table saw. I happened upon this insert on HD website model#40-070. Internet #205414495. I would like to mount it on my Ridgid R4512. Anyone have any experience with this insert? The Ridgid table saw has tracks for the fence at the front and back that are made of aluminum. This insert is cast iron, can it hold the weight?

The front rail looks strong enough but there isna good enough picture of the back rail but in either case I would add a pair of legs under the ends of the table to support it. That wing looks pretty heavy and the saw looks pretty light and It might want to make it tip over besides possibly putting too much strain on the rails. Putting legs on it allows the addition of a shelf underneath which is handy for storing blades and accessories like a tenoning jig for example.

I was thinking of putting a DC Port in/under it. So I would have to box it in, thus giving room for added storage. I will have to make the legs adjustable as the table has casters with a peddle to move it around. This Ridgid table saw weighs 270ish lbs., I don't think it would topple over, but I am concerned with the wing rails. Thanks.

Is General International in business any longer? This is a good price for a cast iron table saw wing. I do not need the router insert. I am having a hard time finding anyone who sells theirs #50-110.

I have a BusyBee saw which I believe is similar to the Rigid without the wheels. I definitely would not hang a cast iron insert between the rails. I would recommend legs as Charles mentioned. You might get away with supports angled back to the saws feet, if you move the saw a lot, but legs straight down would be stronger. I doubt you could replace those rails if you bend them.

If you want to use legs on the extension table simply put wheels on the end of the legs...

It's my understanding that General International is just General now. At one time the company made some very good quality tools here in Canada, I believe in the province of Quebec. They decided that manufacturing here was too expensive and started importing tools from Asia instead. This is just all from memory so someone else may be be more accurate in their explanation.
