You are better off staying with your 2" pipe unless you are changing over to a much larger capacity dust collector. Your shop vac does not have enough flow to draw through the 4" pipe and you will end up clogged and cussing.
Shop Vac dust system
I have a heavy duty shop vac and use 2" PVC pipe to run on the walls to various saws and routers. Would it be to my advantage to increase the size of the pipe to 4" and still use my shop vac connection at the collection bin? I presently have a dust collection lid that I purchased from Lee Valley and it fits on a regular garbage can.

I'm in total agreement with Mike. If you enlarge the volume of the pipe, you will need to increase the CFM of the fan used to remove the dust.
