Well finished another Christmas present for daughter who is a teacher and wanted one of these to stand in front of her class while reading to them.
I made a smaller section of the stand to the main part can be pulled out and inserted into the smaller base in case a student is going to read she may not use that part but I figured it added a little something being part of a set.

Oak edging, walnut I believe plywood for the rest as I was worried about movement seeing how it is almost an air tight fit for the top section it could not handle even the slightest of movement, I finished with a wiping poly satin and clear gloss for the top as it would get the most abuse.

The edge on the top is American black walnut a piece of scrap I had left over I believe that is what the wood is also the scroll saw things on the front I am honestly not sure what kind of wood it is just more scraps I had laying around.

Very nice, Paul

It is amazing what we can do with 'scrap'......

Thank you all,

George if you decide to go ahead and make it the same ill give you the one tip that I wish I knew ahead of time as it would have saved me a back breaking moment lol.
The main insert shaft that holds the top where the book will go which slips into the two different bases break the corners with either a small round over or a slight chamfer to allow for the suction to break as you pull it back out as I wanted it to be as tight as possible so it didnt wiggle around I made it were it was pretty much a friction fit on all sides, well I guess I didnt think wood could create a vacuum effect like this did and about gave myself a hernia trying to pull it back out after the first test fit lol.

Randy yeah its sketch up I just dont seem to have to much time to get into sketch up like I would like so I pretty much just use it to get a 3d feel for something i am designing and then to get the dimensions I dont know how to quickly add all the details etc but it gives me a good stripped down image of a project to get the dimensions whichs helps me a bunch to visualize it.
