Stiff plunge on Bosch 1617EVSPK

I have a Bosch 1617EVSPK which I have been running in my table w/ a Jessem lift. Works a treat - and much quieter than the junk I've owned to date. I pulled it out of the table to use hand held for some deep mortices and fond that the plunge was stiff - had to apply more and more pressure until finally it jammed down into the work. A little unsettling.

Any thoughts on a fix? Maybe it will loosen up in time? I didn't see any way to adjust the tension - maybe I missed it.

Any / all suggestion gratefully accepted.

Clean the slider tubes carefully. Don't oil them though. That's a good place to start.

Did you check to see the plunge lock was loose after taking it out of the lift?

Thank you gentlemen. I'll check the tubes. I haven't used the plunge base until now. Bought the unit early this year which came w/ with both a plunge and fixed base. I put the motor in the lift and stored the bases. May just need to wear in a bit.

James, not sure what you mean unless you're referring to the lock on the base. It seemed to be working OK when I released it to lower the router and locked it to make the cut. I'll check it make sure it was releasing completely.

hey John,
So one thing I use on most of my plunge routers is a high qaulity product called Dyna Glide. This stuff is awesome and does not leave a build up or attract dirt. We use this product on our Legacy Ornamental Mills as well.
WoodWorker's Supply, and Stewart McDonalds (StewMac) carry it. Bit pricy but only spray lub that does not build up like some.

Search - StewMac

www.stewmac.com www.stewmac.com
Spray it on the rods and plunge it up and down several times and you will be most pleased with the results.
Let it dry before you run the router. Dry time is very short.
this can be used on many things not just the routers, your router lift, your rack and pinion under your table saw etc...
Please post what you try and your success's.

I Think James is referring to the plunge lock not the one that locks motor in the base.

I've been using something similar, Bostik Glidecote, for some time. Are you familiar with this product and, if so, how does it compare to the Dyna Glide that you mentioned. It's roughly the same price but shipping is free with Amazon Prime. I'm about ready to order a new can and, if you think that Dyna Glide is a better product, I'd try it.

Hey sorry I missed your question: I actually have both but hands down for no buildup the Dyna Glide is the better.
I use the Bostik Glide coat when I am in a hurry and running something on the edge jointer or or table saw, bed of my planer etc... So I both for special apps. The dyna glide for Routers all the way. Hope that helps you make a decision and again so sorry for the late reply.

One more thing to add, I typically use a Furniture paste wax on my Table Saw's, Band Saw, edge jointer, planer etc...
But when I'm in the middle of a run of something I reach for the Bostik. Any table surface that has sliding action is a good fit for these two items.
