Hi Alan and welcome. The only dumb questions are the ones not asked. We all started from scratch at some point. All the major router bit makers have sets for making the windows you want to replace and there are youtube videos on some of them I think.
Stopping the rot
Hi everyone. I'm new to router work and have just built a router table extension for my table saw, using the Triton TRA001 and a superb stainless steel insert plate bought from Italian Woodworking Tools.
My home is in Dorset on the south coast of the UK. My house occupies a beautiful spot facing the sea, wood construction circa 1850, but has been neglected for 25 years. It has some fancy wooden mouldings on the exterior that all need replacing and 4 period style sash windows to make and fit, hence my interest in routers. Having spent my spare time over the past year setting up my workshop, and now that I'm retired after a career as an engineer, my wife reckons it's time I "lay and egg" and start the house restoration - before it turns completely to compost!
I've already gained loads of useful info from the many experienced craftspeople from browsing this site, but am still on a learning curve. Reading about it is not the same as doing it so you can look forward to me popping up from time to time with urgent, and yes probably dumb questions.

Welcome to the forum, Alan. I'm sure you'll be able to contribute as well as learn. I've been privileged to enjoy some of the beautiful England south coast, but alas, not Dorset. I'll keep buying those lottery tickets and some day... :laugh2:

Thanks Chuck. I found a sash bar ovolo cutter set that is an exact match for the existing windows and plan to make a softwood mock-up of a sash frame to see how it goes together, before using more expensive hardwood. Hello Alan, welcome to the forum and I hope that you get as much useful information from it as I have done recently.
I only came into woodworking 4 years ago, having retired a few years earlier at 70. I have a number of machines, Bandsaw, P/T, Scrollsaw, various sanding machines and lots of 'bits and bobs'. My main interest has been in making bandsaw boxes, (Boxes ofBadger Woodcrafters), as a hobby, so I'm not a furniture maker or complete carpenter. I have just bought the Triton TRA 001 and almost completed my own slide-in table that fits under my workbench/top with the intention of making joints etc.
Based in Wythall, near Birmingham, but pop down to Milford-on-Sea a few times each years to see my elderly Aunt who lives down there. Looks like you have a big job on your hands with the house.

Thanks for your post Malcolm. Just had a look at your website and now I know what a bandsaw box is! They're certainly very creative designs and must be fun to make.
I haven't used the Triton much yet, but its first major job is approaching. All I can say right now is there is an ample amount of power and it's user friendly when table-mounted, so I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Every job seems to involve unearthing some underlying problem or other to be sorted so invariably it takes much longer than anticipated. We're planning to move out before we tackle the major works. We're at the opposite end of Dorset, not far from the Devon border, but yes it's a lovely part of the world. Funnily enough we have relatives in the Stafford area.
