suitable 1\4" collet for Power Master 710w

Hi guys,

I'm newish to woodworking and routers. my father purchased a used router years ago and i was looking to mount it on a router table, however there is no collet.

the router's collet nut is 1\4". I've tried to google the details about a suitable collet size needed but i've had no luck and my personal router's 1\4" collet doesn't fit so i'm guessing they're not universal.

Hi, Guj; welcome! This sort of question comes up quite frequently. I'm not a table router guy myself (freehand by choice...but that could change) but the conventional wisdom is that you need a router with at least 2+HP and 1/2 shank bits. The 1/4" router & bits just won't 'cut it' so to speak.
If you do find a compatible collet, and you really do need a perfect fit (a bit coming out at 15,000rpm could be pretty exciting!) there's still a lot you can do with it but the low HP and small bit shank size are a bit limiting (no pun intended).

Hi Guj. A quick search I did came up as Trend Power Master 800 watts with 1/4 and 8mm collets. Maybe check with Trend Routing Technology to see if they have one that fits that model. If not then it's time for a newer model of router. This is where it's important to list your country of origin in your personal info because if you are not from North America then you would require a different model router than those of us who are. North American power systems are different from the rest of the world.

Depends on what you are doing I guess. I've got 4 or 5 older Craftsman (Ryobi) routers, all 1/4" shank, and 1/2 or 3/4 HP. I use 1/2" flush trim bits, and normally rout 1/2" plywood. Been doing that for years with no problems.
