Good Morning:

I am new to using routers in general. My questions is how do I start an
internal cut with a router either using a plunge router or a table router.
I want to cut a half in slot on a four foot piece of plywood (3/4" thick) from
6 inches in from either side.

With a plunge router, assuming the slot is parallel to one side, start with an edge guide to position the bit in the right spot. Then, add stop blocks at either end to limit the length of the cut. Then, do the plunge cut in several passes, increasing the depth of cut with each pass.

You could do essentially the same on the router table if the piece of ply is small enough, but dropping the work piece onto the bit can be tricky and potentially dangerous.
