I guess this question was too stupid to reply too. In any case I have since purchased a set and am very pleased.
No question is too stupid...I prefer brass over steel because the brass is non-ferrous and has exceptional locking qualities. Non-ferrous is easier on the router bits than steel. The guide should be able to receive your ½" collets, which most don’t. Porter Cable, Freud and other guides were designed to work with 1/4" collets not the ½" collets of routers today. The 1-1/4" overall diameter does not allow the collet to be seated as close as possible to the cutting surface, which means you have to extend your router bits out further than need be.cable-guy said:I am looking to buy a set of template router guides and was just curious if there is any real diffrence in brands. I know you need to check to see if the set actually fits the router you have and that they come in either steel or brass but other than that is there any real diffrence?
