Great way to extend the life of a solid tool. Your ingenuity always impresses me!

32 years ago the Zenith laptop I was using for my school assignments while I was out at Sea training got REALLY HOT. I actually deformed the plastic side turning it off and unplugging it. It turned out the 8 NiCad batteries that made up the battery bank shorted a cell. I pulled the batteries out, attempting to run just on AC, but the circuit was not set up that way. I built a little 12v DC power supply (which I still have) out of scraps I found on the ship. It got me through the next few months until I got home. The laptop was ok with a new battery and went to sea with my brother a few years later.
