There are some plans that only call for 3/4" - No offense, but I agree with Jerry - at least double it up if possible. It certainly can't hurt, and look at all the posts here about tables that have sagged - also, if putting a track or miter slot in it, you're getting pretty thin if you're only starting at 3/4". Besides, It adds virtually nothing to the total labor effort.
