Ok like joat (Theo) I haven't been getting any time in the shed for the last 4 or 5 months due to having to travel 365 km to Brisbane once a week so I haven't any thing new to show. I dug up a couple of photos of a Torii Gate I did for my daughters front yard two years ago. It is constructed out of hardwood ( Iron Bark) 4 fence posts and a 4 x 2. No glue ,screws or bolts used. I used mortise & tenon then dowels to hold the supporting columns , kasagi bar & shimaki. The nuki bar with wedges and dowels. The gakuzuka with mortise & tenon. The Kasagi bar (black) sits on the top of the shimaki bar (red), Nuki bar joins the two supporting columns, the gakuzuki is the vertical bar joining the nuki to the shimaki bar.
You can't see the chinese characters that i routed on the uprights but the left hand one is peace, the right hand is harmony.

Regards Harold.

That's pretty slick. I especially like the fact that no metal was used in making it.

Not too shabby, Harold.

Japanese traditional building really relies on mortise, tenon and dowels.....?
