Updated shop pictures

This past weekend I finally had the time and help to empty most of the shop into a borrowed 22 ft closed trailer and the workbenches stayed outside overnight with no rain. Saturday we cleaned the floor of oil stains with a degreaser and then washed the whole floor with TSP. You will see before and after pictures. I am so pleased with the results

This and the overhead air filter will help keep the shop cleaner and as said in another post it will keep the wife happier !

On another note, a friend told me he saw my advertising for the fall session woodworking class and it was from my personal F/B page. So I re-posted it in the local group page with over 15000 members and low and behold, I now have 2 confirmed students and trying to get a third. If I start the class on Oct.6th and run for 10 weeks, it will end Dec. 8th and be perfect for I finally got my surgery date yesterday, Dec. 14th. This is for a Bariatric bypass. My son had this surgery on Apr.16th and has lost over 100 lbs. I am so anxious.

Folks again I tried to post several pics of the shop reloaded, but it seems no matter how many times I rotated them, they still would not upload properly, so I only put one.

That's a big improvement Dan. I have bare concrete and it's very hard to clean up.

Looks nice. Got to be a plesure to have your shop in play again. I run courses and workshops for eye docs, and I know what you mean about getting the word out. Most of our students and clients come from social media. You have to keep posting regularly, often about stuff you've made, or your students have made, handy hints, etc. We redirect almost everyone to the website where they sign up for our free newsletter. We rarely do heavy self promotion and post helpful information directly from our management system. We are in the top 10 percent of Constant Contact open rates and never get dinged for spamming. We often give away a document, form, patient information material or demonstration, which helps keep us out there. We used to have a competitor who has stopped competing for cunsulting services cause we now own that arena. We used to run ads in the journals, but they priced themselves out of the market for us, and most of the young docs don't read anything but online stuff now.

Best thing I ever found on marketing services like ours, is a tiny book called "Your First 1,000 Copies", which is for self publishers. But the book covers using social media and email lists to build a strong business. About $6. Dan you might try taking the pictures and loading them onto Irfanview, a free photo editing program. Save them to it and then try loading the Irfanview files to the forum. Irfanview also allows adding text and numbers on the photos. I number mine so that if the forum doesn't load them in order I can refer to them by number.

Dan,

First, good luck with the surgery. One of the things you might consider is a coating of sealer on the floor. Actually several coats, like 3, would help put a sealant that should prevent spills from soaking in. Then ether's also a covering that is used often in garages that seals and also gives a gritty surface so it isn't slippery which is also painted on. Seems a shame to go through that much work and not take it a bit further.

Good luck with the class.

As for the picture rotation, are you saving the images in the rotated position and then uploading or simply rotating in the software and then uploading without saving?

rotating & uploading. I just took Chuck's advice and downloaded Irfanview, I'll try it. I can't put a sealer on now , I'm busy all week and the class starts on Saturday morning.Maybe next week. Does the sealer smell ? we can still smell the paint and it's been over a week and I used latex !

I could be wrong but regardless of program you'll probably need to save the picture as rotated and then upload. Give that a try and I think it will solve the issue.

Open, rotate, and then save either as the original file name or as a new name. Then upload the saved photo.

Irfanview is a great program for doing this, as it does not diminish the quality of the photo. Some photo editing programs will loose photo information each time you edit and then re-save them. Irfanview doesn't do this when rotating photos, so it is my go to for doing this. I've been using Irfanview for about 20 years and almost every version. It's a great FREEware program.

Paul,

The difference in the amount of dust coming from the concrete is amazing. I swept the floor Saturday after the class I gave and wow there was very little dust, after 2 weeks from the day I painted it. I consider the effort was well worth it given the results. I replaced the drain cover with an aluminium checker plate this week and it is nice and shiny instead of the old steel plate that dated to 1983 when the house was built. It was so rusted it was de-laminating like an old plywood.

When I bought this house the garage walls and ceiling were a dark brown painted over the aspenite. The first picture shows a workbench that is the colour that was everywhere. It was dark at noon in there. After painting the walls and ceiling white and now the floor grey, it is a pleasure to go in there.
