Vevor 3018Pro issues with machine steps to gcode numbers...

1412 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Bob Semp
Hi ... Just set up a Vevor CNC... it seems to respond fractionally to the GCode sent to it. As a trial I was trying to just do a square, 1 1/2" on a side ... GCodes seem to be reasonable (from x 0 to 40 and y 0 to 40) but the tool only moves a fraction of an inch. Any idea how I correct this? (steps / mm setting or ???)

I am new to this world. I am using carbide create for the design and gcode, and candle to control the machine.

Anyway, thanks for any help

Bob

Welcome to the forum Bob.
Have a read of this Candle Grbl software explanation and Tutorial.
Also if you ask down in the cnc forum i would be very surprised if some one down there couldn't help you.

G'day @Bob Semp , welcome to the forum.

You may get a better infomed response in the CNC section of the forum.

Thanks. I already read the tutorial (nicely written, easy to understand). Didn't realize there was a CNC specific sub-forum, so I will repost my question there... thanks.

OK, just for clarification...
In Candle, when I open a file that has gcode to move 1 1/2" in x axis in straight line (G1X40Y0)
my router head moves a fraction of an inch. but when I type in exactly the same gcode using Candle's
command line, the router head actually moves 1 1/2" in the x axis...

why should I be confused???

Thanks

Further update, I tried using a different gcode sender (UGS) and danged if the same thing happened. So I'm thinking my GRBL Controller may be the culprit.

I also found out, using UGS, that pausing and running, pausing and running, pausing and resetting and running will OCCASIONALLY resume the action with the full movement being commanded ... wonder if the file input is being sent too fast and overflowing the controller buffer or something like that...

Just for giggles I bought another controller from amazon. HOPE that will resolve the issue ... until I get that, I'm gonna try reducing the baud rates between the computer and controller significantly, and see if that does anything.

If anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears!!!
