We will never forget...

I also want to remember how we came together as a country the following day.

We weren't Democrats or Republicans, Liberals or Conservatives.

We were simply human beings coming together, united as one.

We were Americans.

At this hour, I was on a plane coming back West. Last bit of NYC I saw was the glint of the setting sun on the towers. I'd spent that gorgeous day at the Gugenheim, and walked down Lexington to go have a drink in the tower, but got under a building next to the Citibank building and got spooked for no particular reason. Headed back, got my luggage and headed out to Kennedy.

Next morning my wife woke me up just after the first tower was struck. I had some friends working in the tower, but their office hourse started at 10 a.m., so they were safe. For years after, when I met doctors from the city, they all knew someone who died that terrible day.

As much as anything else about the 10th, it was what a beautiful, clear day it was.

I woke up that morning and turned on the TV just after the first plane hit the tower. I sat there dazed and thinking this cannot be real. Then saw the second plane hit the other tower and just felt sick. When America is challenged we do come together. The images of the planes crashing is still etched on my brain and it makes me fighting mad when I think about it. This day is very hard for the families of the fallen at the Towers, the Pentagon and the folks that crashed in Pennsylvania. Senseless violence that only brought more pain and violence.

Thanks to the folks that run toward disaster while others are running away. Thanks to those who sacrificed their lives and limbs in the battles that came after that day. Thanks to the family and friends of all of the fallen and injured.

God Bless America

I was actually in first grade when it happened.
The memories are still blurry, but I will never forget watching the towers burn on a TV that was brought into the classroom. One student asked if we were watching a movie.
That just goes to show you how innocent we were. A bomb drill was even conducted and we pushed our desks against the wall. I thought it was a tornado drill or something.

Back then I didn't understand it, and still don't.
People lost their lives and loved ones that day. Pray for the families, and hold your own families close today.

Yeah, very unlikely I'll ever forget. But I also remember Bhenghazi, and the politicians trying to pass it off as spontaneous. At first that is. Hell, as soon as I heard the date I knew it wasn't spontaneous.

Watched as it happened on Sat/tv and thought I was seeing a movie trailer. Still cant think about those events without feeling extreme hatred for the bastards that caused it.James.
