100 points to anyone who can identify the name of this process, and why it is being done.

Hey I'll have a go at this one.... It looks like a plating process using electolysis. The current flows transfers ions of the one metal to the other while in an acid bath. This is done to put a protective coating on the item receiving the ions. But then that's just a guess.

You know that looks a lot like my remote in the tub......

Ed,
Your getting 'very close'.
What if I said that the object in the tank is a plane and that you are removing the rust?

Again just a guess.

Winner!!!
Plane is getting an electrolysis bath in a solution of water and sodium carbonate (also the active ingredient in Arm and Hammer Washing Soda).

Placing the positive lead on the metal anode in the bath, it draws the rust from the plane to the anode.

I'm using a trickle charger in that photo above, takes just slightly longer -- but not as much as you would think.

A nice bath, some elbow grease and finishing wax... here's the results.

Stan, I had read about this process in one of the magazines, this is the first time I have seen the results. Great post!
