So.. i've been busy with work, but now fall/winter is here and I have more time for my hobbies! I've started to sand and restain and seal the hardwood floors in my house.

Just finished the hallway last night. I forgot a before sanding pic. but they were yellow and had stains here and there. There is a bedroom 'before' pic where you see stains, and yuckiness. this is very similar to what was in the hallway.

rented a drum sander from homedepot. didn't care for the edger they had, so I used a handheld belt sander and my palm sander.
sanded, then used a wood conditioner, then fine sanded again.

used minwax red mahogany (wiped on then quickly wiped right off) and then the fast drying polyurethane. (2 coats.)

I'm in LOVE with it! hope to do the rest of the house within the next few months.

Looks very good we have 3/4 of a 1600 ft house to redo. I picked a random orbital square sheet sander that I will resell when I am done......

How much time did it take you total????

Bryan
small hallway. took about 45 mins. to sand each time. have to start at a coarse grit and work your way down to 220. i think i used 30, 60, 80, 120, 220.

DEFINATELY invest in great knee pads!!!
then used a wood conditioner, then sanded 220 again because it raised the grain.

then staining probably 30mins. and oil based stain will not(shouldn't) lift the grain again. then you have to wait (i waited overnight).

i used the quick drying poly. applied, waited 8 hrs. then applied the 2nd coat.

Excellent work and something you will enjoy every time you walk on it. Thanks for sharing the pics.
yup! every time i get to the top of the stairs and see it I get a huge smile and warm fuzzy feeling inside. (may just be from the fumes, but i prefer to think its pride).

i'm looking forward to doing the rest of the house.

Great to see you back with us, Stephanie. The floors really came out nice looking. I did a small amount of floor refinishing when I was a lot younger, so I appreciate the amount of hard work that it takes. Be sure to keep us posted on how it goes, and any other projects you take on.
