i have a legacy ornamental mill 1800 and am adding a manual hand wheel ball screw z axis to it, now which router do i want to use, i am going to remove the oem router mount and buy a router mount to clamp directly to the router motor. i have 2 soft start routers, a porter cable 7518 3 1/4 hp and a freud 2 1/4 hp router. i kind of like the freud because it is lighter and the 7518 is currently mounted in my router table. both have variable speed. which router you think i should use in my legacy.

Dave I wouldn't think you would need a lot of power for that. Something the size of a PC 690 would probably be enough but the Freud would certainly be in my opinion.

The 2 hp router should be fine unless you start using the machine to make large columns or projects like that. I have an 890 plunge router on my 1000/1200 and it is supposed to be a 2 1/4 hp router.
