Bob, I have long suggested making use of the space under a saws extension wings for storage. There are many ideas floating around. I would suggest that it is easier to have simple cabinets on castors so they can be pulled out for access and slid back under for storage. In a limited size shop you don't want to be relocating the saw every time you need something from a drawer. As far as an easy to make lifting mechanism build a frame from 2 x 4's and drill holes through it, install insert nuts in the bottom and use bolts to lift the frame high enough to isolate the castors. A few swings of a ratchet or wrench on each bolt and checking with a level assures a stable work surface. Here is another idea built from a commercially available plan.
Working on a plan for a router station ala Norm with place for the table saw
I have a VERY small shop. I have my router hung from a piece between the fence rails on the contractor's saw. I figure the space below the wings and between the legs of the saw can be used. I'm trying to plan a "router station" that has drawers and a place to fit the contractor's saw minus the stand. I'm looking at large castors and some kind of extensible legs to make the thing stable between moves, something on the order of the legs that extend from a hospital operating table, lifting the table just enough that the castors are off the floor. Anybody done this already or am I starting from scratch?

In my shop, moving the saw around is almost a necessity. Ninety percent of the time I'm ripping shorter stock or cross cutting. When I need to rip longer stock, the saw has to be aligned with the "long way" of the shop but in that position, it's hard to walk around it. Ergo... I move it into that position only when I have to. With no castors under it now, the move is a noisy difficult endeavor. I'm still working on the cabinet. I got some good ideas from the picture you provided.
