Hi Dan

I don't have any experience with the "Xtreme Xtension" but it looks like it will server you well.

But I do have one of the collet extender from MLCS and it works well also.
I should note ,,the one I have from MLCS holds very well almost to well I do have a hard time getting the bit out once I get done with the job unlike the lock nut on the PC router :) But if you unscrew the nut all the way off it's not to bad.

Hi Corey

The extender works great when you have bit that is to short that's to say when you have it in a table it will only come up just so far and that's it,many just pull the bit up in the chuck and lock it in but that is unsafe because the bit is not all the way in the chuck.
Also many router bits can be used in many ways, lets take side cutting bit i.e. cove bit you can move the bit up and make a dual cuts that's to say make one pass and than move the bit up just a bit and make a 2nd pass to make a nice crown molding part.

You may say I can do that now without the extender by just moving the bit up in the table well yes and no your router motor will just go up just so far and then that's it.
The extender will give you about 1 1/2" to 2" more b/4 the motor bottoms out.

The MLCS extender comes in two types 1/4" and 1/2" I have the 1/4" one because most of the 1/2" bits I have don't need the extender, they are bit longer than the 1/4" shank sizes.
The Xtreme Xtension comes in one size with a sleve for the 1/4" shanks bits,I don't care to use sleves if I can help it because they put a small nick inside of the chuck when they clamp down on the bit(s) the Xtreme Xtension are about 70.oo bucks and the MLCS ones are about 25.oo bucks ea. and if you play it right less 10% off that with free shipping,as you know I'm sure. :)
They do have one draw back (MLCS) they have a 1 1/16 lock nut, that's a big wrench but if you go to the flea market and find a stamped out wrench for a buck or two that will take care of that error, many tools come with a service type stamped out wrench.
Some are 1" but a little grind on the belt sander will make it into 1 1/16".
