Is the purpose of this little doo dad to raise bits that would otherwise be to short to cut to the depth you want? Such as I have a 1/8 bit that I barely bet 1/8 inch cut with it cause it is so short. Is this a safe thing to do?

Thanks BJ. I had no idea they made somehting like this. I often have the scenarios you state here. Got to get one of these as I have several 1/4 shanked bits that just are to short for me to use without yanking them up in the collet and I do not like to do that. Most of these bits are 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8 straights, beading etc. Some operations I end up doing on the table saw cause I can't get a dado or groove to the depth I need. Thanks again BJ!

Just checked it out in the MLCS catalog. On sale for 24.00. And I just ordered 100.00 worth of turning stock. Going to have to wait a bit to soften the blow with the wife
