I found out today just why Bob and Rick unplug their routers.
I had just inserted and tightened a 3/8" rabbeting bit and was placing the router/baseplate down into the table when the rocker switch on the Rona router brushed against the side of the Oak Park table and turned itself on.
The slow start function allowed me enough time to get the fingers away.
I will now unplu each time I remove the router from the table even though it is inconvenient.

Bruce, this rule of thumb shouldn't just apply to routers, this goes with all power tools. Tools and parts can be replaced, fingers/hands and lives can not. Stay safe.

Not to beat this one into the ground but the 1st. page of every tool manual that comes with a new tool tells you do unplug the tool b/4 you change any thing or service the tool.

Bruce, glad you are OK and count this as one of your lucky days.
It may be the time to go get a LOTO ticket. :)

Bj :)
