I've never made a ZCI for any router bit. Specifically I'd like to make one for a Sommerfeld tongue and groove set. So if anyone can direct me to another thread that explains how to do this or a YouTube video or if you can just go through the steps - I'd appreciate it.

I tried making one with mdf but they seem to break easily?

Thanks.

I don't think there is such a thing. You could make one for a flush trim bit which is round but that isn't what you want. The only thing to prevent tear out is to use a backer board. That is to say if you are running your tongue or groove follow your work piece with another board right next to it to prevent tear out.

There are a lot of split fence designs with inserts to accommodate smaller bits. That is too much work for a lazy guy like me, so I add a piece of 3/4 mdf to the face of my fence and bury the bit into it. On a bearing guided bit you need to clear a slot for the bearing , since it can't cut there.

here's an example
