I don't know if using a smaller diameter blade is a good idea or not. However, I'm gonna try it. My saw is capable of varying speeds so, speed might not be a limiting factor. My favorite blade is Tenryu and, they offer a vast selection of tooth configurations. I'll bet I can find one to suit the job.
Watch this guy. He knows what he's talking about as to the use of circular saw blades in a table saw. His videos teaches a lot more about real world woodworking than mere theory and conjecture.
the youtube videos are by Bob Chase, a master wood worker, and the video is "Mastering the table saw" or something similar. All his videos are worth watching.
