Bosch 3107 DVS 5" Random Orbital Sander
I had a DeWalt 4.5" ro sander before I bought the Bosch, but after a number of years the pad disintegrated, so I bought the Bosch as a replacement. I bought this tool because I hate to sand. I read a review of RO palm sanders and the Bosch unit, smaller than the one I purchased, was ranked #1. So, I figured I'd buy the heavy duty model and maybe it would get the job done even faster. That thought was spot on. This sander is a wood removing demon when set at its top speed, but will treat your work gently when set at a low level. I am extremely happy with my purchase, which was a refurbed unit, and would recommend it to anyone.
If there are any downsides to this machine it is that it is a lot larger than the 4.5" units, and is so powerful it regularly vibrated loose the screw that held the pad on the sander. A drop of blue locktite and a wave washer under the head of the screw solved that problem. I purchased an adaptor to hook the dust collection port to my shopvac. It works well when hooked up, but it is difficult to keep it hooked up, as the adaptor keeps falling out. I am still working on that problem and will post my solution when I get it solved.
Overall, I would rate this tool at 8.5-9 on a 10 point scale. If I hadn't encountered the problem of the screw backing out and if the dust collection setup was a little better, it would get a 10.
