I love Mission style furniture Gene and those pieces are excellent. I really like the curved arms which is a bit of a departure from tradition Mission design. I only recall the originals to be flat as the design was meant to be built by people with modest woodworking skills from lumber they got from the local lumber yard.

How did you get the curve in the arms Gene? Did you steam them? I've been wanting to build a sofa for years but the little woman isn't as fond of the style as I am.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.

Thanks guys.
Chuck, the arms are 3 ea. 3/8X5-1/2 X37" pieces glued and clamped to a form to get the curve.
You are correct. G. Stickley's chairs had straight arms. The curved arms are much more comfy, though.

Gorgeous and pretty ambitious project. I think I saw one built on one of the woodworking shows and they had a couple of tricks to handle the spindles. Would love to see a few in progress photos of the second chair, especially the details.

The more I do, the less I accomplish.

Beautiful Gene!!

I don't know how far you are on the second build, but as you move along i'd be curious to know if you would change your mind and build 2 at the same time instead of one after the other. I could see doing them concurrently as it would save on the set-up--but on the other hand keeping the parts in order for 2 would be more than twice as hard for me!!

We'll wait for an answer--however long it takes!!
