Default Grrrrr Sketchup 6 & 7

Last week I downloaded sketchup 6. I started into the Tutorial to see if it could do what I needed to do. I went through the first 4 tutorials and as soon as I started to use the Pan tool it starting crapping out.

I uninstalled it and downloaded Sketchup 7. Quickly did the first four tutorials and no problem. Great, next step, next tutorial, looks like it's just the sort of program I'm looking for. I download the tutorial and start trying to follow the cryptic instructions. The tutorial is for the "Pro" version which starts at $495US. The "regular" version is substantially crippled such that you can use it as a toy but don't expect to go much further than that.

I'm now getting rid of all of the Sketchup stuff and looking for a CAD program again. These are my requirements:

1. I need to draw a full house with studs, wiring, plumbing the whole bit.

2. I need to be able to draw kitchen cabinetry and other finishings.

3. it would be nice to do dimensionning

I'm not above paying but I want to make sure that it's worth paying for. Sketchup wants you to pay before you find out if its usable.

Hi allthunbs

You can find many, many programs to do what you want, in 2D or 3D
give http://www.download.com and http://www.majorgeeks.com/
and I'm sure you will find one you like that puts sketchup to shame..

Default perhaps I should rephrase the question

what CAD programs do you use and what ones do you like?
