Default Shop Vac hose mystery?

Okay, I know I can cobble-up a workaround for this situation, but it is just nonsensical. I CANNOT find a step down to make a connection from the 4" hose from a large size ShopVac to a 2.5" hose, as used on the smaller versions. I looked again today at the ShopVac displays in two big box stores.
I know I'm not a great woodworker, but why do all these companies torment me like this? I mean, hell, I ain't THAT bad a guy.

I have the same complaint. Seems like every tool you buy, the fittings are different just enough to make things not fit. Frustrating.

I was going to recommed Rockler or Woodcraft catalogs...they have all different sizes that shoudl accomodate. I got a 2 1/2" to 4" adapter at WC I use on the back of my miter saw
