Default Need ideas for picnic table

My favorite customer (daughter-in-law) has commisioned? me to build a picnic table for her and family.

The criteria are: It must be moveable, unique, and cheap and suitable for family. My son is 6'-3" , 230#, oldest grandson (16) is 6'-5", 246#, the little guy (13) is about 5'-6", 160#. So you see they are a fairly good size mob

My question: Does anyone have any ideas, plans, or food they would like to share? Anything is welcome. Thanks,

Instead of the usual rectable shape, you might consider a polygon - each segment being sized for a couple of people, number of sides based on typical gathering size. That would keep each bench shorter and stronger. The size of the table could also be broken into segments for ease of moving and storage. Large, loose-pin hinges could be used to assemble the sections once in place.

Here in New Mexico, our food-related state motto is "Red or Green?" - referring to chili peppers, of course.

Thanks for the input Ralph. Some good thoughts.

I thought those strings of chiles were for decoration!

Hi Tom

That's going to be a hard one ,,,picnic table for a foot ball team ..)

You may want to make it out of concrete,,, precast stuff,,,you see them all the time outside of McD's and I bet your food bill is out of site..

They must sell them in your town , let your fingers do the walking for that one...round ones will roll,,,but not the seats...

Not bad Bob. Rolling is an option. Don't think sons wife mentioned seats, hmmm! Snooze you lose, eh?

That poor gal has a bunch of human garbage cans to feed. None of them are fat. Both boys play football. Oldest plays rugby too. Youngest plays lacrosse also. Son has gotten too old for much other than critique of sports with his dad!

Gonna work on that seatless round table idea!

Much obliged!

Man whatever you do make sure that if two sit on one side the thing doesn't flip!! Saw that once on Americas Funnies, you know. If it doesn't work out that way, have your Camera ready, it has been a while since I saw that and you might get lucky

Hay Tom, Check out this set from WOOD magazine. Best-Yet Picnic Set Woodworking Plan
It's heavy duty and the benches are seperate from the table. Need not worry about it tipping over. Besides if the benches are attached it makes it difficult for larger people to get in and out and very heavy and difficult to move.

Thanks Dave,

That one looks good too. I'm gonna have to make a decision soon. Or probably favorite daughter-in-law will make it!

BTW she's my favorite and only DIL.
