Default ZC Insert for 45's

For straight cuts with my table saw I have a home made Zero Clearance Insert which is 4x 11 (see photo).

I never had the need to do any cuts with my saw at 45 degrees and now I need to do some.

I wonder how you make a ZC insert for such a cut. Do you just put a blank insert and raise the blade slowly until she comes thru the blank insert?

Thank you
Nicolas

I have a 90 zero clearance insert that I never use. The table seemed to accumulate more chips and dust than with the standard insert.

As for making one for 45 this means you'll have to lower the blade before turning it over to 45 then raise it up.
Sounds too much like work.

HI Nicolas

That's a no no most of the time
Just use the insert that came with the saw..

You need to think about that one,,as the blade is laid over it needs more room to spin free...so the ZCI is just a wast of time on a 45 deg.cut.

The problem is that the tilt and blade elevation mechanisms are separate. The elevation mechanism raises the blade at 90, whereas the tilt mechanism tilts from that position. Thus, there's no way to raise the blade along the angle.

Well, not exactly. Mine will raise on the 45 in order to cut a ZCI for that angle. But, as Bj said, why bother. I use the wide slot insert that came with the saw.
