Default Low-angle block plane

I'm looking to buy a low-angle block plane and would like to hear about anyone's experience with the Stanley 12-960. I'm interested in its faults as well as its good points. Suggestions for another brand plane would be welcome. As much as I would like one, I can't really justify a Lie-Nielson plane. Thanks for your help.

Regards, James

I've had an old Stanley block plane for years, and use it often. For the price, it's hard to beat.

James I'll say Bob stays close to all his planes, they are hermetical sealed behind a 7" thick steel door, I got close to them the other day and alarms went off scared the daylights out of me. When he did get one out, he coddled it like a new born babe. He said maybe next time I can touch one of them---maybe!!!

On a more serious side, Bob is a guy that likes to work wood with his hands, me? Lets run it through the jointer one more time just to make chips and noise!!

It's difficult to beat a Lie-Nielson hand plane. I will have to agree with Bob about the Veritas. I think these are giving the L-N's a good run for the money.
