Default anyone know if a stanley #6 plane iron will work in a stanley 4 1/2?

both planes appear to use the same 2 3/8 width iron. i have a #6 i restored and just got a #4 1/2 cheap but its missing a blade. thinking i cant be lucky enough for the same iron to work in both planes. the mystery will be solved in a week or so when its delivered i guess. any help is appreciated

Hi Tim
I think that the same blade will fit both planes. Lee Valley sells their Veritas line that will fit Stanely and Record planes and their 2 3/8 fits Stanley & Record

i made the same inquiry on lumberjocks and does indeed use the same iron. evidently the 4 1/2 5 1/2 6 & 7 all use the same lever cap chip breaker and iron.
i'm not used to being lucky but i'll take it. i'm really liking restoring these old planes.
