Bosch 4100: Insert plate

My retired machinist neighbor picked up a used Bosch 4100 TS last Winter, He did a major cleanup and adjustment on it and it's running perfectly now.
I gave him my old 8" dado set, so he was committed to making some DIY table inserts, before he could use the dado set.
OK; question.
on one the side of the table opening (left below) there is a raised ledge, part of the table casting and nothing to do with the insert leveling pads.
Have any of you 4100 owners removed that ledge to simplify making DIY plywood insert plates?
(See pic below)
He can work around it but it'd sure be simpler if it wasn't there...i did mention that he's a machinist.

it's there as support for thin metal or plastic inserts...
work around it.. DO NOT remove it...

Poor engineering then; it's at a higher level than the leveling pads. He can certainly work around it by routing that section deeper...just a p.i.t.a.
*bonus; he had a great time today dadoing, after making the plywood insert. First time dadoer... :)
nope...
cake and pie..
nope...
excellent...

the thinner ZC's are thicker at the pads to allow for more threads...
