Question Is this safe??

I got a new saw in the other day, Ryobi BTS 21. Been making my zero clearance inserts which is kinda a trick on that saw.
Problem was when I went to make an insert for the shaper head, the spindle is awful short. I can only get 8 flats of turn on the nut by hand and probably another flat with the wrench. The plate is 3/8" thick with a 5/16" spacer to get the cutters away from the motor far enough. I could probably go to a 1/4" spacer, but not much less. Don't even know where I could get one anyway. I could probably build up a optimum spacer with fender washers but don't feel real comfortable with those either.
Any suggestions or am I just being a little anal retentive about this?

John Schaben

The problem with experience is I usually get it immediately after I need it.

I haven't had any experience with that,John, but if you could post a few pictures, it might help with making a desision.
