Default Gas Springs

Hi all, I have constructed a fold down bench out of a solid core door, hardboard and 4x4 legs with hinges.

My question is, has anybody used gas springs to nuetralize the weight of this thing?

My follow up questions are; how to choose the size of the springs and where to position the mounting hardware.

Thanks
Chuck
