finishing raised panels
I am making a blanket chest for my DIL for Christmas. The design calls for flat panels, but I wanted to try out my new raised panel bit set, so I milled them to size as raised panels.
Question: the design says to finish the panels with stain before putting them in the frame so you don't get unstained streaks from expansion, etc., and then cover them with wax paper as you mount them in the frame to protect them when you stain the rest of the chest.
That sounds pretty complicated, and I doubt it will work with raised panels. How do you guys finish your raised panel doors? How do you keep from streaking the panel with stain once it's mounted in the frame?
